Once we left Orange Park we headed to Avon Park, FL which was a bit of a creepy sitch. The hotel was called the Jacaranda and it was a hotel operated by the hospitality department of the local college. The highlight? Real room keys! No key cards that can't be placed next to cell phones or credit cards! Another highlight was definitely the dining facility, it was a buffet (and y'all know I don't usually trust buffets) with live piano music and plenty of blue hairs. I was the youngest person there by about 40 years. Nevertheless the dessert options were plentiful and I most certainly didn't need teeth to eat them. Win for the lazy/elderly!
Another good thing about the Jacaranda? We had a dead baby lizard in our bathroom and the laundry machines were only 50 cents. Its the little things. We were there for the Superbowl however and we had a wonderful time. I went to a bar down the street with a few friends and pretty much the whole cast and crew ended up hanging out on the beautiful, 2nd story open air porches off the front of the Jacaranda. Avon Park has some nice thrift stores if you've got the time, which we luckily did. I now have a fantastic black and white sweater straight out of the 80s.
Once we were done with Florida we drove to Cleveland, MS where the dimly lit Econolodge awaited us. The one saving grace is that there is a Wal-mart across the street from that motel. ("Street"= 6-lane highway over which you could very feasibly die if you do not sprint.) However, we did get to perform at the Bologna Performing Arts Center.
After Cleveland we moved on to Shreveport, LA which, if you're a fan of True Blood on HBO, you understand my excitement. (Shreveport is the location of the vampire-ridden town.) I was a little upset that I did not find a vampire at the IHOP. But here's pics of the venue in Shreveport, it was an historic theatre at which Blues Brothers was filmed, pretty cool to share the stage:
Next on our list was Alma, Arkansas, it was a great place and I loved it especially because I got to see Randy's family! I also was surprised with my Valentine's Day gift from Randy, you'll have to turn your computer to the side because I don't have the patience to figure out how to rotate it:
Once we made it through the show in Alma it was time to go west!
