Y'all, all my belongings for 3 months are on a bus. I have 2 suitcases, a carry-on bag, a small backpack, pillow and blanket. I honestly think the best piece of advice I got was from our dance captain, Brooke, who said, "pack what you think you need and then take half of it out." I did just about that and I have a reasonable amount of crap as a result. I did, however, cave and call a car service out to my apartment this morning. The thought of me subway-ing it with all of my shtuff kind of made me cross. It was a little expensive but completely worth the pennies. The best part about it was chatting with the driver, from Greece, and listening to his stories. I asked him how long it took him to learn all of the streets and he said, "I get here in 1981 on a Tuesday. Wednesday I am driving trucks." He did say that another man rode with him and told him where to go for a couple weeks. A couple weeks?! Without a GPS I'd be useless in the city. Although I am sure the traffic in 1981 paled in comparison to the onslaught of kamikaze cabbies we currently employ.
I am unbelievably tired, so I may just call it a night at that. We're back at 10am tomorrow...earlier than originally planned too, I'm fighting the urge to be grouchy about it. And this is our first night at our first hotel, Days Inn, its pretty nice. I told Randy that on a scale of 1 to 10 its about a 5, but now that I think about it I might up that to 6 depending on the quality of breakfast. All rankings aside they still have some pretty hardcore B-grade Christmas decor going on here. I'm talking sparkly hanging balls and garland outlines of trees taped to the wall. All of which is severely overshadowed by a sweaty looking life-size Santa.
But for realz I think I'll take advantage of the rain hitting the window and try to fall asleep. Shouldn't take too long. Good night, Dirrty Jers!
